The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered launches September 29, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and, for the first time, Nintendo Switch 2. CD Projekt Red confirmed the date alongside a first trailer for a separate paid expansion, Songs of the Past, due in 2027.
This is a distinct release from the free "next-gen" update CDPR shipped in December 2022, which added ray tracing and DLSS to the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC versions of the base game. Remastered is a new, deeper overhaul built on top of that foundation, not a re-release of the 2022 patch. Anyone who owns The Witcher 3 already — including on the original Switch — gets it as a free upgrade; it will also sell standalone for $59.99 for anyone who doesn't already own the game.
What's actually new
The 2022 update mainly bolted ray-traced lighting and reflections onto the existing PC version and brought a 30fps ray-tracing mode plus a 60fps performance mode to consoles. Remastered goes further. On PC, CD Projekt Red is adding full path tracing alongside support for DLSS 4.5, FSR 4, and XeSS 2.0, on top of higher-resolution textures and reworked foliage across all regions.
Combat has been rebuilt rather than just re-lit. CDPR says animations between attacks and target switches are smoother, gap-closing moves are faster, and a new adaptive camera pulls in or out depending on how many enemies surround Geralt. New sign-based finishing moves have been shown off, including an Aard-powered execution. The skill tree has been redesigned with reworked perks and new interlocking branches, and the studio has added a transmogrification system, reworked looting, better quest tracking, and an expanded photo mode.
CD Projekt Red has not published a finalized breakdown of rendering modes across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS5 Pro, and Switch 2. PS5 Pro support is confirmed, but resolution and frame-rate targets for that and the base consoles haven't been detailed yet. The studio has been clear that consoles and Switch 2 won't get PC's full path-tracing and ray-traced hair setup — expect a scaled-down but still meaningfully upgraded lighting package on those platforms.
Free expansions, and what carries over
Every owner of The Witcher 3 — remastered or not — now gets the two major story expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, at no additional cost if they didn't already own them. That's a permanent change to the base package going forward, not a Remastered-exclusive bonus.
Cosmetic content tied to Netflix's The Witcher show, such as the Forgotten Wolf School armor and Henry Cavill-inspired Nilfgaardian gear, was added in earlier 2022-era patches rather than being new to this remaster. It's expected to carry over into Remastered rather than being reintroduced as new content.
Songs of the Past
Alongside the Remastered announcement, CD Projekt Red revealed Songs of the Past, a new paid expansion co-developed with Fool's Theory — the Polish studio also working with CDPR on the Witcher remake. It's set in a new region called Letten and is said to introduce new combat abilities and a chain-weapon class. Songs of the Past is planned for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2 sometime in 2027; CDPR hasn't announced a specific date or price.
Switch 2 version
The Switch 2 release is a native port rather than a cloud-streamed version, according to CD Projekt Red. Anyone who owns The Witcher 3 on the original Switch, digitally or physically, can claim the Switch 2 Remastered version for free on launch day. For everyone else, it's expected to sell for $59.99 like the other platforms.
What's still unconfirmed
CD Projekt Red hasn't detailed final performance-mode specs for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS5 Pro, or Switch 2, nor has it said whether Remastered saves will be compatible with saves from the current version. Pricing and release timing for Songs of the Past also remain open. Gamingonix will update this article once CDPR confirms those details closer to the September 29 launch.
