Sony has confirmed the PlayStation Plus Essential lineup for September 2026: Sniper Elite: Resistance, MLB The Show 26, Wobbly Life, and Chained Echoes. All four became available to subscribers on September 1 and remain claimable through October 5, 2026.
The announcement came via the PlayStation Blog on August 26. As usual for the Essential tier, the four games are free to download and keep for as long as a PlayStation Plus membership stays active — they aren't a permanent addition to anyone's library once the subscription lapses.
What's in the Lineup
Sniper Elite: Resistance is Rebellion's tactical third-person shooter set in occupied France during World War II, running as a side story parallel to Sniper Elite 5. It's available on PS4 and PS5.
MLB The Show 26 is San Diego Studio's current entry in its long-running baseball franchise, available on PS5 only through this offer. Members also get the game's Jump Start Bundle, which includes five The Show Packs, one Equipment Pack, and a Jumpstart Choice Pack.
Wobbly Life is an open-world sandbox game with physics-driven, ragdoll-style movement, playable solo or with up to three others in online or local split-screen co-op. It's available on PS4 and PS5.
Chained Echoes is the retro pick of the month — a 16-bit-style RPG developed by Matthias Linda and published by Deck13, originally released in December 2022. It's set in the fantasy world of Valandis, where a long war between three kingdoms is ending, and follows a group of heroes navigating the fallout using a mix of sword-and-magic combat and pilotable mechanical suits. It's available through this offer on PS4 only, with the PS5 version not included in the bundle.
Why It Matters
Chained Echoes was well received on its original release for reviving Super Nintendo-era JRPG structure — turn-based battles, an overworld map, a strong emphasis on story pacing — while adding modern conveniences like a stamina-style system that punishes button-mashing over careful skill use. Its inclusion gives PS Plus Essential subscribers, who don't get access to the deeper back catalog available on the Extra and Premium tiers, a chance to pick up a well-regarded independent RPG at no added cost.
The rest of the September lineup leans toward genre variety rather than any single theme: a stealth shooter, a sports sim, a physics sandbox, and a story-driven RPG. Sony has not detailed October's lineup yet; that announcement typically lands in the final week of the preceding month, based on this month's timing.
Subscribers on any PS Plus tier — Essential, Extra, or Premium — can claim all four games through the PlayStation Store or console before the October 5 cutoff.
