Sony ran two State of Play broadcasts back to back on September 3, 2026 — a main show followed by a dedicated State of Play Japan episode focused on titles from studios across Japan and Asia. Combined, the two streams covered more than 30 games in just over two hours, closing with the biggest reveal of the night: a confirmed release date for Final Fantasy VII Revelation.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation Closes the Show
Square Enix used the final slot to confirm that Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the next chapter in the Remake trilogy, launches April 8, 2027. The reveal came with an extended trailer but no platform exclusivity details beyond PS5, where the previous two entries debuted first before later multiplatform releases.
Until Dawn 2 and Metro 2039 Get Dates
Firesprite confirmed Until Dawn 2 arrives January 28, 2027, on PS5, with a new trailer centered on the game's Dead True ghost-hunting crew. Pre-orders for the Standard and Digital Deluxe editions open September 10, with deluxe buyers getting Dr. Hill-themed cosmetics carried over from the original game.
4A Games set Metro 2039 for February 4, 2027, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, alongside a first look at console gameplay. It's the studio's first mainline Metro entry since Exodus.
Marvel's Wolverine and Ghost of Yotei Updates
The main show opened with a live-action clip from Zach Cregger's Resident Evil film ahead of its September 18 theatrical premiere, before moving into a final trailer for Marvel's Wolverine, which launches September 15 on PS5 — the closest release date of anything shown.
Sucker Punch also revealed Most Wanted, a new run-based bounty-hunting mode for Ghost of Yotei featuring a playable Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima. It arrives October 1 alongside a Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition bundling the base game with its post-launch content.
Maneater 2 Is a Surprise Reveal
Tripwire Interactive revealed Maneater 2, a sequel to its 2020 shark-action game, set at Neptune's Kingdom, a luxury seaside theme park where players eat, explore, and evolve their way through an invite-only preview event turned disaster. Tripwire gave only a 2027 window, with no specific date yet.
Also Announced
The rest of the show moved through a long list of smaller reveals and updates. Crimson Desert got a first look at an upcoming expansion, and Pearl Abyss showed off a fresh Gran Turismo 7 content update alongside it in the same segment. Sony also unveiled two limited-edition DualSense controllers tied to GTA 6, and Capcom gave an updated look at Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance.
On the release-date front, Final Fantasy Resonance — an HD-2D remake of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius — launches October 22 with a demo already live. Hunter's Moon, a first-person narrative game set during the English witch hunts, arrives October 26. Where the Seeds Fall, from Cygames' Edge studio, follows on November 5, and Stupid Never Dies, a zombie-versus-monster brawler, is out October 21. Further out, Gundam: Rogue Orbit was confirmed for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on March 5, 2027, with pre-orders now open.
What's Confirmed and What Isn't
Most of the dates above came directly from the shows and should be treated as firm barring the usual risk of delays. Games shown only in trailer form without a release window — including several of the Japan-focused titles — remain unconfirmed for platforms beyond what was shown on stream, and Sony did not commit to a timeline for its next State of Play.
