Phantom Blade Zero Isn't Out Yet — Here's Everything You Need to Know Before It Launches

Phantom Blade Zero has not launched yet. S-Game's wuxia action-RPG was originally set for September 9, but the studio delayed it to October 29, 2026, citing extra time to polish character models and environments. It arrives that day on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, with pre-orders already open across all three storefronts.

There's no Xbox version at launch. The PS5 release carries a 12-month console exclusivity window, meaning any other console port — Xbox included — can't arrive before October 2027 at the earliest, if one is made at all.

What Kind of Game It Is

Phantom Blade Zero is built in Unreal Engine 5 and mixes classic wuxia storytelling with what the developer calls "kungfupunk" — traditional Chinese martial arts aesthetics layered with steampunk machinery and body modification. Combat and traversal have been pitched by the team as closer to Ninja Gaiden's speed than the deliberate pace of a Souls game.

Players fight with a Sha-Chi meter, a shared stamina-posture-skill resource that both the player and every enemy manage in real time. Light attacks build it cheaply and chain into combos, while heavy attacks, specials, and prolonged blocking drain it fast. Empty an enemy's Sha-Chi entirely and they're left open for a punish. Fighters can carry two primary weapons and two secondary tools — called Phantom Edges — and swap between them mid-combo. S-Game has said the final game will ship with roughly 30 primary weapons and 25 secondary ones, each altering move sets and combo timing.

Four difficulty modes are planned: Wayfarer, a cinematic story mode; Pathbreaker, the standard difficulty; Hellwalker, which sharpens enemy AI to punish mistakes; and 66 Days, a permadeath-adjacent mode where every death burns one of the protagonist's 66 remaining days.

Story and Setting

The player character, Soul, is an elite assassin working for a powerful organization called The Order, operating out of the fictional martial-arts underworld of Wulin. Framed for a murder he didn't commit, Soul is left for dead, then saved by a mysterious healer whose cure only buys him 66 days before it fails. The story follows his search for who framed him and his collision course with The Order, set against a Wulin populated by rival factions, mystical powers, and folk-horror creatures.

Editions and Pricing

The Standard Edition is priced at $59.99; the Digital Deluxe Edition runs $69.99 and adds the Wulin Legend and Blood-Steel Form outfits, a digital art book, and the digital soundtrack. Anyone who pre-orders either edition gets early access to a Treasure Basin accessory and a Legacy outfit — both of which can also be unlocked later through normal play.

Early Impressions

No review scores exist yet since the game hasn't shipped, but hands-on previews from events including Summer Game Fest and a PlayStation State of Play in August have been largely positive. Outlets that played build demos described the combat as fluid and weighty, with noticeable differences in feel between heavier weapons like axes and faster options like twin blades. Several previewers called the choreography some of the best they'd seen in the genre, though hands-on time has been limited to curated demo sections rather than the full game, so pacing and difficulty balance across a full playthrough remain unproven.

Gamingonix will follow up with full coverage once Phantom Blade Zero actually launches on October 29.
