NBA 2K25 is being pulled from sale. 2K Games confirmed the title will be delisted from digital storefronts on October 30, 2026, and its online servers will go dark on December 31, 2026, according to a support article published on the official NBA 2K help site.
The game launched on September 6, 2024, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. It's just over two years old and sits two releases behind the current mainline entry, NBA 2K27, which launched last month.
What Stops Working on January 1
Once servers shut down, anyone who already owns NBA 2K25 can still redownload it and play offline, but a long list of features goes away. MyCAREER and MyTEAM will no longer be accessible, and players will no longer be able to earn Virtual Currency. Multiplayer games, Online Leagues, and community content sharing will also stop working, since all of them depend on a live connection to 2K's servers.
Modes that don't rely on online services will keep functioning normally. 2K's support page lists Play Now, MyNBA, The W, and MyWNBA as still playable offline after the cutoff, covering franchise management, quick exhibition games, and the WNBA-focused modes.
Why This Matters
2K rarely gives this much advance notice before cutting off an NBA 2K entry's online features. Past entries in the series have typically lost server support with little warning once a new title in the franchise arrived. Confirming exact delisting and shutdown dates more than three weeks ahead gives players a clear window to finish any MyTEAM collections, MyCAREER storylines, or VC spending before those modes stop being playable entirely.
It also lines up with a broader pattern across sports and live-service games, where publishers are facing more scrutiny over abruptly shutting down online components of games that were sold at full price. Whether 2K keeps giving advance notice for future entries — NBA 2K26 and eventually NBA 2K27 — remains to be seen.
What This Doesn't Affect
NBA 2K26, released in September 2025, is unaffected and remains available for purchase and online play, including through Xbox Game Pass, which added the game as a included title earlier this year. NBA 2K27, the current release, continues to receive support as well. This shutdown is specific to NBA 2K25 and doesn't signal any change to either newer title.
Players still holding unused VC or MyTEAM packs in NBA 2K25 should plan around the December 31 cutoff — once servers go offline on January 1, 2027, there's no indication any of that progress or currency carries over to later entries in the series.
