LEGO PlayStation Is Officially Coming After Months of Speculation

LEGO officially announced its first PlayStation set on September 3, 2026, confirming months of leaks about a brick-built version of Sony's original 1994 console. The set, numbered 72306, costs $179.99 in the US, £139.99 in the UK, and €159.99 in Europe, and contains 1,911 pieces.

What's in the Box

The finished model reproduces the original grey PlayStation console at roughly 2.5 inches tall, 10.5 inches wide, and 7.5 inches deep. It includes a buildable PlayStation controller and a disc lid that actually opens, mirroring the console's hinged top-loading drive.

The standout feature is a pair of hidden dioramas tucked inside the console, celebrating Gran Turismo and Ape Escape — two of the original PlayStation's defining first-party franchises. Both dioramas can reportedly be removed and displayed separately from the console shell once built.

LEGO Insiders — members of LEGO's loyalty program — get early access to the set starting October 1, 2026. General availability follows on October 4 through LEGO's own stores and website, along with select third-party retailers.

Months of Leaks Before the Official Reveal

The announcement caps off roughly seven months of speculation. Leaks tracing back to around March 2026 pointed to a PlayStation-themed LEGO set in the works, with early reports estimating a late-2026 launch and a piece count near 1,900 — figures that turned out to be close to accurate. Subsequent leaks, including images attributed to the Instagram leak account Brick Tap, specifically called out the Gran Turismo and Ape Escape dioramas months before LEGO confirmed them.

Pricing was one of the few details leaks got wrong. Earlier rumors pegged the set at around $159.99, roughly $20 below the $179.99 LEGO ultimately set at launch — a gap outlets covering the leaks flagged as "higher than expected" once the official price landed.

One rumor remains unconfirmed by LEGO: leak reports claimed the PlayStation set would ship with a free bonus LEGO Astro Bot set (reportedly numbered 40899) as a gift-with-purchase at official LEGO stores while supplies last. Neither LEGO nor Sony has confirmed this bundle as part of the official announcement, so treat it as unverified until LEGO's own product listing says otherwise.

Why It Matters

LEGO has built out console and game-themed sets for years, including entries tied to Lego Horizon Adventures and other PlayStation IP, but a set modeled on the hardware itself is a more direct piece of PlayStation nostalgia than LEGO has made before. The timing — a 1990s console landing as a premium adult collector set — fits the same pattern as LEGO's Nintendo Entertainment System set from a few years earlier, which also paired a full console replica with removable game-themed display pieces.

For now, the confirmed details are the set number, price, piece count, dimensions, and the October 1–4 release window. Gamingonix will update this piece if LEGO or Sony confirm the Astro Bot gift-with-purchase or share further contents ahead of general availability.
