Polyphony Digital announced on September 3 that Gran Turismo 7's next major update, Spec IV, will ship in two separate free releases rather than one. The first part lands in October, the second in December, and together they add two circuits, 12 cars, and several new modes.
What's Coming in October
The October release adds Sportsland SUGO, a Japanese circuit known for its elevation changes and its recognizable Dunlop bridge. Six of the update's 12 new cars arrive alongside it, including the Citroën 2CV Charleston, the Honda Stepwgn Spada, and the Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo. Polyphony has also confirmed an increased Collector Level cap, a new opening cinematic, and additions to the Car Viewer, plus a Car Concierge feature and new Driving Experiences for this first part.
What's Coming in December
The second release brings back Autumn Ring, a track that dates to the original 1996 Gran Turismo and returns as part of Polyphony's build-up to the franchise's 30th anniversary in 2027. The remaining six cars land with it — the full list hasn't been confirmed yet, though a BMW M5 E60 and a Mazda RX-VISION GT3 EVO have been shown in Polyphony's reveal trailer.
December's part also carries the bulk of the update's new modes. Family Mode is designed to make the game more approachable for younger or less experienced players. Online Drift Trials score players on control and style rather than finishing position, and Shuffle Races randomize race conditions each session. Polyphony has said this second half will also include further tuning tied to its GT Sophy AI system.
Why Split the Update in Two
Polyphony hasn't explained in detail why Spec IV is being staged across two months instead of releasing as a single update, as past Spec updates have. The timing lines up with Gran Turismo's 30th anniversary in 2027, and the studio has framed Spec IV as an opening act for that anniversary period, which suggests more content is planned beyond December.
Both parts of Spec IV are free for existing Gran Turismo 7 owners on PS4 and PS5. Polyphony has said more details, including the rest of the 12-car list, are expected to surface around the Gran Turismo World Series event in Singapore on October 3 — shortly before the first part of the update goes live.
What's Still Unconfirmed
Polyphony hasn't given exact release dates within October or December, only the months themselves, and hasn't detailed patch sizes or whether either update requires a PS5-specific improvement pass.
