Gamescom's Opening Night Live aired August 25, 2026, a two-hour showcase that ran through more than 40 games. The stream mixed brand-new reveals with fresh trailers for already-announced titles, and two announcements stood out from the rest: a surprise genre pivot from HoYoverse and a free remaster for one of the last decade's most-played RPGs.
HoYoverse Opens the Show With Nodusfall
The stream opened with Nodusfall, a new project from HoYoverse, the studio behind Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail. It's a marked departure from both: a dark fantasy co-op action game built in Unreal Engine 5 rather than the Unity engine HoYoverse has used for its prior releases, and it drops the studio's usual anime art style for a grittier, high-fantasy look.
The reveal trailer showed groups of players — reportedly up to four — fighting oversized enemies with an emphasis on stamina management and coordinated positioning, drawing immediate comparisons to Elden Ring: Nightreign and Monster Hunter. HoYoverse hasn't announced a release date or a platform list, and beyond the trailer, details on progression or monetization are unconfirmed.
The Witcher 3 Gets a Free Remaster
CD Projekt Red confirmed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered launches September 29, 2026, as a free upgrade for existing owners on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, alongside new native versions for Nintendo Switch 2 and Battle.net. Anyone who owns the base game will also get its two expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, at no extra cost if they don't already have them.
The stream also gave a first look at Songs of the Past, a new paid expansion set in Letten, a previously unseen region of the Witcher world. It's available to wishlist now, but CD Projekt Red has only committed to a 2027 release window, not a specific date. The studio separately announced a partnership with Blizzard bringing the remaster to Battle.net, with a Geralt-themed skin for Diablo 4 as a cross-promotional tie-in for players who buy the expansion there.
Silent Hill: Townfall Reveals Its Cast
Konami used the show to unveil the English voice cast for Silent Hill: Townfall. Jovan Adepo (IT: Welcome to Derry, The Odyssey) plays protagonist Simon Ordell, Terry O'Quinn (Lost) plays Richard, and Kezia Burrows (Observation) plays Zoe. Konami confirmed the game releases September 24, 2026, on PS5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store — arriving less than a month after the show aired.
Also Announced
The rest of the show moved fast: a new gameplay trailer for Metro 2039, a first announcement trailer for Final Fantasy VII: Revelation, and a fresh look at Gears of War: E-Day. Turok was confirmed to be returning with a new entry after years of dormancy, and Mega Man: Dual Override showed gameplay featuring two previously unseen characters, Proto Man and Twinkle Girl. A new, unnamed Dungeons & Dragons game also got its first gameplay reveal, centered on a warlock protagonist.
Most of these announcements came without release dates, and Gamescom showcases have a track record of games that slip years or change significantly before launch. The Witcher 3 Remastered and Silent Hill: Townfall are the exceptions here, both with dates inside the next month.
