Square Enix has confirmed Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch on April 8, 2027. The date was announced during Sony's State of Play broadcast on September 3, alongside a new trailer, and comes with pre-orders now live through the Square Enix Store.
Revelation is the third and final entry in the remake trilogy that began with Final Fantasy VII Remake in 2020 and continued with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in 2024. Naoki Hamaguchi returns as director, with Tetsuya Nomura as creative director and Yoshinori Kitase producing — the same core team behind both prior installments.
A Simultaneous Multi-Platform Launch
The bigger news is where the game is launching, not just when. Remake released as a PS4 console exclusive before reaching PC roughly a year later, and Rebirth launched on PS5 only, with a PC port following months after. Revelation breaks that pattern: Square Enix has confirmed it will arrive the same day on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store.
That makes it the first entry in the remake trilogy to reach Xbox hardware at all, and the first mainline Final Fantasy VII game to come to a Nintendo home console. Square Enix hasn't detailed technical differences between versions, including whether Switch 2 will run at parity with the other platforms or rely on a scaled-down build.
Editions and Pricing
Square Enix has outlined three pre-order tiers. The standard Day One Edition runs $69.99. A $99.99 Deluxe Edition adds a hardback artbook, a mini-soundtrack CD, and a steelbook case. A $349.99 Collector's Edition, limited in quantity and sold exclusively through the Square Enix e-Store, bundles the Deluxe contents with a statue depicting Cloud, Zack, and Sephiroth on separate display bases. All editions include physical and digital options at launch.
Why It Matters
Revelation is positioned as the conclusion of the story Remake and Rebirth have been building since 2020, expanding on the original 1997 game's back half rather than adapting it scene-for-scene, as the two prior entries did with the opening acts. Square Enix has not released plot details beyond confirming the game closes out the current arc.
The platform strategy is the more concrete story for now. Timed PlayStation exclusivity shaped the release windows of both earlier games and left Xbox and Nintendo owners waiting or shut out entirely. A same-day launch across four platforms and three PC storefronts would mark a clear break from that approach, though Square Enix hasn't said whether it reflects a broader shift for future titles or a decision specific to closing out this trilogy.
With just over six months left before release, further gameplay details, a firmer look at platform-specific performance, and any remaining marketing beats are expected to roll out between now and April 8, 2027.
