Capcom released Title Update 4.0 for Dragon's Dogma 2 on October 9, pairing a free content update with the launch of the paid Dark Arisen DLC. The patch's biggest changes for PC players are in the Graphics options menu, where Capcom added new upscaling and frame-generation tools on top of existing bug fixes and a new Hard Mode for all platforms.
What's New on PC
Update 4.0 adds AMD's FSR 3 Frame Generation to the Graphics section of the options menu, giving PC players without Nvidia hardware a frame-generation path that wasn't previously available in the game.
For Nvidia users, Capcom updated DLSS Super Resolution to version 4.5 and switched DLSS Frame Generation to support multi-frame generation, which can produce more than one generated frame per rendered frame on supported RTX 40- and 50-series cards. The patch also decouples DLSS Frame Generation from DLSS Super Resolution, so players can now turn on frame generation even with Super Resolution switched off — a flexibility the game didn't offer before.
Capcom hasn't published specific benchmark numbers alongside the update, so the actual performance gains will vary by hardware and settings. Dragon's Dogma 2 has had a rocky history with CPU-bound frame-rate drops in crowded areas since its March 2024 launch, and these additions target that long-standing complaint without claiming to fix it outright.
Hard Mode and Other Shared Changes
Across all platforms, Update 4.0 introduces Hard Mode, a tougher difficulty option players have been requesting since launch. The patch also adds a new Pawn specialization, Orienteer, and increases the rift crystals earned from interacting with forgotten riftstones from 30 to 90. Some armor pieces now carry thermal properties relevant to the game's hot- and cold-weather survival mechanics.
A feature allowing players to carry over their existing save data into a fresh New Game run is also part of the update, alongside a batch of bug fixes covering Pawn dialogue errors — including a fix for the main Pawn misfiring a support Pawn's line during the "High Five!" command — plus assorted quest fixes.
Dark Arisen DLC Ships Alongside It
Update 4.0 landed the same day as Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, a paid expansion available on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and the newly released Switch 2 version of the game. The DLC adds Norgan, a new snowbound region with a set of Lost Rites dungeons and new enemy types. Dark Arisen is a separate purchase from the free Title Update 4.0, though both released in the same window.
Why It Matters
The PC-side upgrades address one of the more persistent criticisms of Dragon's Dogma 2 since launch: inconsistent frame rates in the game's busiest areas. FSR 3 support closes a long-standing gap for AMD and integrated-GPU users, while the DLSS 4.5 and multi-frame-generation changes bring the PC version in line with Nvidia's newer feature set on other recent releases.
Capcom hasn't said whether further PC-specific optimization passes are planned beyond this update. Full patch notes for Title Update 4.0 are available on Capcom's official Dragon's Dogma 2 site.
