Bungie says it will restore vaulted Destiny 2 campaigns, destinations and raids and make them available to all players. The commitment came in a Bungie.net post titled "The Next Chapter for Bungie," published September 21, 2026. It came with no dates and no list of what returns first.
According to VGChartz, the post was announced by Studio Head Poria Torkan and Marathon Head of Product Josh Deane. Its headline line, as reported by GamingBolt, is "We are not done with Destiny." VGChartz quotes the post further: "Destiny is foundational to Bungie's future. We have more stories to tell, new worlds to build, but we have to do it right." What Is Coming Back
Bungie has not published a specific list. GamingBolt says the restoration includes old campaigns such as The Red War, along with planets and raids previously moved into the Destiny Content Vault.
The post also addresses the effect of that vaulting. GamingBolt quotes it as saying: "We understand that removing these experiences had a lasting impact on player trust and enjoyment of Destiny."
Why It Will Take Time
Bungie says restoration "is not as simple as restoring old files," according to both outlets. Per VGChartz, the post explains: "Changes made to Destiny 2 since Beyond Light require us to update lighting, encounters, combatants, and other underlying systems. That work will take time."
No schedule was given. Bungie said only that more details will come in the coming months.
Background
Forbes reported in May that Destiny 2 expansions were cancelled and the game was moving to maintenance mode. GamingBolt also reports that player response to the final content update, Monuments of Triumph, influenced the decision to bring content back. That claim rests on GamingBolt's reporting alone, and we have not seen it corroborated elsewhere.
Marathon Gets a Mention
The same post covers Bungie's other live project. Per VGChartz, Marathon is set to expand beyond its current genre constraints, with a deeper survival experience, cooperative PvE, competitive PvP and PvPvE modes. Planned updates include an October Nightfall Refresh and a December Symbiosis update.
What's Still Unknown
Several points remain open:
- Which content returns first. Bungie has not said whether campaigns, destinations or raids come back in any particular order, or which specific ones.
- When any of it arrives. No dates or windows were announced, only that details will follow in the months ahead.
- Whether new Destiny content is confirmed. "More stories to tell" and "new worlds to build" are statements of intent. Coverage of the post reports no announced expansion, sequel or new game.
The one firm commitment is that vaulted Destiny 2 content is set to return for all players. Everything about timing and scope is still to come from Bungie, and the studio itself says the work "will take time."
